Quatrefoil will reopen. You can help now.
As part of the statewide effort to slow the spread of coronavirus, Quatrefoil Library is closed. We will reopen as soon as it’s safe and advisable, perhaps just one day a week for starters. We can’t wait to see book clubs and author events return to the library, along with everyday patrons exploring one of the nation’s largest collections of LGBTQ+ books and DVDs.
Closed does not mean stopped.
The canceled Queer Voices reading at the library in late March has sprung to life in a series of short video readings by each of the event’s five writers (see it on Quatrefoil’s Facebook page). A May book launch morphed into an online video by poet James Cihlar. The library has announced an application deadline this summer for its second Quatrefoil Scholarship. The board and its committees continue to meet and plan for the rest of 2020, and we will announce some exciting news during Pride month.
Like nonprofits everywhere, Quatrefoil has been hit hard by this crisis. We decided to delay our spring fundraising campaign. The cancellation of Twin Cities Pride in June removes our biggest yearly community outreach effort and also a counted-on source of revenue from our popular book sale. An abrupt economic downturn affects the modest endowment that helps back library operations. In short, expenses remain the same while funding has temporarily declined.
You can help. A donation of any size now gives Quatrefoil a much-needed boost and will help make up for lost revenues. As we have no paid staff and are run entirely by volunteers, every dollar donated goes directly to operations. And it’s entirely tax-deductible.
Thanks in advance for your help. Be well, and we look forward to seeing you on the other side of the crisis.
