Board of Directors
Board Structure and Membership
The Quatrefoil Library Board of Directors consists of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and At-Large members. The Board convenes on the first Thursday of each month. Board elections take place annually in the Autumn, with members serving three-year terms starting in January of the following year. Individuals may serve up to nine consecutive years on the Board before taking a mandatory one-year hiatus.
Meet our Board of Directors
Board President – Ollin Montes (he/him)

Ollin Montes (he/him) is a leader dedicated to fostering a safe, nurturing, and informative environment for the queer community. Trained as a community organizer by ISAIAH in 2018, Ollin has worked on issues ranging from immigrant rights and housing to environmental advocacy. As the organizer for the 100% campaign, he helped secure Minnesota’s clean energy standard in 2023. Since then, Ollin has transitioned into environmental conservation and restoration work, proudly embracing his role as a “Lorax in training.”
Ollin began volunteering at Quatrefoil Library in 2019 and has held several key roles, including Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, Chair of the Programming Committee, and was elected Board President in January 2024. He believes the library is a vital part of Minnesota’s queer ecosystem and is committed to expanding its reach and impact through collaboration and community engagement.
Vice President – Iggy Gehlen (he/him)

Iggy Gehlen (he/him) first visited Quatrefoil Library in 2022 and has been a passionate spokesperson for the space ever since. Starting first as a general volunteer, he now proudly serves as both the Board Vice President and the Programming Committee Chair. Iggy believes the Library should be a space where people can gather freely in shared passion and joy and where everyone feels safe, valued, and connected to Queer history, culture, and community.
Iggy is a graduate of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and is currently working in public health. In his free time he enjoys being outdoors and grabbing drinks with friends, sometimes even doing both simultaneously.
Treasurer – Durowaa Agyeman-Mensah (she/her)

Durowaa Agyeman-Mensah (she/her) is a grant writer at Saint Paul Public Schools. She graduated with degrees in French and Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Educational Policy. She joined the Q Library board at the beginning of 2025 with a commitment to defending Queer and BIPOC intellectual freedom through strategic resourcing and inter-organizational collaboration. Additionally, Durowaa recently finished a three-year term as school board chair at a local school district. In her spare time, Durowaa enjoys reading dystopian books, trying to crochet, and binge-watching medical dramas.
Library Manager – Katie Hagen (she/her)

Katie Hagen is passionate about libraries, access to information, and supporting the work of Quatrefoil volunteers. She is a librarian with 17 years of library experience and is currently the Resource Management Librarian at St. Catherine University, where she oversees the purchase and management of library resources. Katie began volunteering at Quatrefoil in 2023 and participates in the Collection Management Committee and the Librarian Advisory Group. She catalogs new material, manages monthly purchases in OverDrive, and is spearheading the first-ever Quatrefoil inventory project.
When not doing library-related things, Katie and her wife Becky enjoy camping their way through the Minnesota State Parks, spending time with their nieces and nephews, and participating in speed puzzling competitions.
Board Member – Austen Hartke (he/him)

Austen Hartke is the author of Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians, a book on theology and personal narratives published by Westminster John Knox Press, now in its second edition. He is also the founder and former Executive Director of Transmission Ministry Collective, an online community dedicated to the spiritual care and leadership potential of transgender and gender-expansive people of faith. Austen is a graduate of Luther Seminary’s Master of Arts program in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible Studies, and is generally a big ol’ nerd for dusty texts with complicated histories.
Board Member – Danny Choma (she/her)

Danny Choma is not dead yet. She’s lived a lot of life, ridden her bike many miles, played a lot of jams, drawn a lot of draws, and written a lot of words. These days she mostly gardens because, let’s be honest, that’s the good place for us old girls. She thinks gender is a song we sing that calls us home. You know, like a hymn or a mantra, or a good bike ride when the sparrows come alongside you like a dream.
She is a lawyer, a community organizer, and an artist. She has a staunch dedication to protecting libraries because a wide array of free speech empowers a wide array of spiritual freedom in gender and sexuality. She is a Nadine Strossen superfan.
She lives in Frogtown, Saint Paul. She lives with two cats, a gaggle of musical instruments, and a sewing machine. Twice divorced. Libra. Brunette. Transfemme.
Board Member – John Brentnall (he/him)
John Brentnall joined the board of Quatrefoil Library in late 2021 and currently serves as Treasurer. John graduated from Grinnell College in 1993 with a B.A. in political science and is currently employed by the University of Minnesota’s Office of Human Resources as a Retirement Consultant. John served on the board of Philanthrofund Foundation (PFund) from 2002-2009. His board tenure included a two-year stint as President, four years as Treasurer, and one year as Governance Committee chair. John enjoys reading about history, politics, theology, and Iowa, with dollops of literature and poetry. His favorite LGBTQ book and movie is The Color Purple. Alice Walker is a prophetic voice for our time and beyond. (Photo to come.)
Board Member – Natalia Mendez (they/them)

Natalia Mendez (they/them) is a queer Chicanx writer, photographer, and artist living in South Minneapolis. They love to read and write about food, the outdoors, travel, and life on the margins. Committed to community cooperation, curiosity, equity, and access to information, they believe spaces like the Q Library are essential for maintaining free, shared queer history, experiences, and voices. They can often be found riding their bike or motorcycle to the beach, cooking, looking for their new favorite state park or river trail, or snuggling with their cat, Mo.
Board Member – Rob Thomas (he/him)

Rob Thomas (Wokiksuye Yuha Mani) currently serves as Development Director at History Theatre in St. Paul, MN. He came to History Theatre from a national food insecurity nonprofit where he served as Chief Development Officer. Before that, Rob served in various fundraising and executive leadership roles for theatres across the country. Rob relies on storytelling and genuine relationship-building to create an inclusive and engaging environment for donors and patrons to connect to the art they care about. As a descendant of the Wahpekute Dakota, he’s also very active in the urban Native American community. In addition to Quatrefoil Library, he currently serves on the boards of directors for the White Bear Lake Area Historical Society, Saint Paul Rotary, and Minnesota Citizens for the Arts, and is the current DFL Chair for Senate District 66.
Rob first visited Quatrefoil Library in 2025 for a tour, where he connected with a board member and quickly became inspired by the organization’s mission. He soon became a library cardholder. In 2026, he joined the board to support and advance the mission and values that closely align with his own.

Sylvie served on the board of the Community Child Care Center (CCCC), as Vice President from 2018-2019 and AFGE Local 2265 from 2018-2019. Aside from board duties, Sylvie brings experience with strategic planning, financial audit compliance and developing good stewardship across all levels of an organization from a non-profit perspective. She is a previous alumni from Voices for Racial Justice and is excited to collaborate with fellow board members on Quatrefoil’s mission and future!
Sylvie enjoys reading, board games, and traveling. Subjects of most interest are about history, politics, theology, law, sci-fi/fantasy, as well as poetry. Current LGBTQ book is Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark and one of her favorite movies is Fifth Element.
