The “engaging” (New Yorker) low-voice ensemble Cantus is widely known for its trademark warmth and blend, innovative programming and riveting performances of music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century. The Washington Post has hailed the Cantus sound as having both “exalting finesse” and “expressive power” and refers to the “spontaneous grace” of its music making. The Philadelphia Inquirer called the group nothing short of “exquisite.”
Cantus invites you to a special behind-the-scenes deep dive into the upcoming spring concert series The Secret Letter which delves deep into a clandestine world of forbidden love via passionate letters from the past two millennia. In collaboration with the Quatrefoil Library, this special event will feature conversation around the program’s stories, delving deep into the intimate exchanges that defied societal norms and ignited flames of love in the shadows, as well as sneak peak performances of several pieces from the program.
The event will also feature a special guest, renowned L.A.-based Filipino-American composer Saunder Choi, who will speak on his new work, “Lightyears to Lebanon,” commissioned and written for this particular program. Don’t miss this unique event giving even more depth to an important conversation around the resilience of love despite all odds.
