SUMMARY:"Loving Scott: A Memoir" Book Reading
DESCRIPTION:Join author Pat Horner at Quatrefoil Library as she reads from her book “Loving Scott: A Memoir.” A moving story about her son Scott\, his career as drag queen Miss Demeanor\, his passing\, their relationship\, and much more. \n\nThe reading will be Thursday\, August 10th from 7-8:30pm at Quatrefoil Library.\n\n“Pat Horner is an artist and writer living in Woodstock NY. When her son\, Scott\, passed away in 2014\, she began writing stories about their life together through addiction and recovery in Minneapolis\, Pittsburgh\, and New York. Scott’s drag life as Miss Demeanor (Misty) in the lower East Village lead to his successful career as a makeup artist. Filled with deep love and grief\, Horner’s story of a symbiotic relationship with her gay son cries out to be told in the atmosphere of today’s anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric.”\nFor more details about the book visit here: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/…/loving…/1143714665

SUMMARY:Queer Book Club: Giovanni's Room
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Queer Book Club on Wednesday\, February 8th\, at 7pm at Quatrefoil Library\, 1220 East Lake Street\, Minneapolis\, MN 55407. We’ll be meeting to discuss Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin. Anyone is welcome to join whether you’ve read the whole book or just skimmed a few pages. \nIn the 1950s Paris of American expatriates\, liaisons\, and violence\, a young man finds himself caught between desire and conventional morality. \nDavid is a young American expatriate who has just proposed marriage to his girlfriend\, Hella. While she is away on a trip\, David meets a bartender named Giovanni to whom he is drawn in spite of himself. Soon the two are spending the night in Giovanni’s curtainless room\, which he keeps dark to protect their privacy. But Hella’s return to Paris brings the affair to a crisis\, one that rapidly spirals into tragedy. \nDavid struggles for self-knowledge during one long\, dark night—“the night which is leading me to the most terrible morning of my life.” With a sharp\, probing imagination\, James Baldwin’s now-classic narrative delves into the mystery of loving and creates a deeply moving story of death and passion that reveals the unspoken complexities of the human heart.\nWe meet the second Wednesdays of every month! \nRSVP on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/784662299294082?ref=newsfeed

SUMMARY:Queer Book Club: Little Fish
DESCRIPTION:Join the TC 30+ Book Club to discuss Little Fish by Casey Plett. Anyone is welcome to join whether you’ve read the whole book or just skimmed a few pages. \nIt’s the dead of winter in Winnipeg and Wendy Reimer\, a thirty-year-old trans woman\, feels like her life is frozen in place. When her Oma passes away Wendy receives an unexpected phone call from a distant family friend with a startling secret: Wendy’s Opa (grandfather) — a devout Mennonite farmer — might have been transgender himself. At first she dismisses this revelation\, but as Wendy’s life grows increasingly volatile\, she finds herself aching for the lost pieces of her Opa’s truth. Can Wendy unravel the mystery of her grandfather’s world and reckon with the culture that both shaped and rejected her? She’s determined to try.\nAlternately warm-hearted and dark-spirited\, desperate and mirthful\, Little Fish explores the winter of discontent in the life of one transgender woman as her past and future become irrevocably entwined.\n\nRSVP (not required) on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1775471276154060?ref=newsfeed
