SUMMARY:Catherine Lundoff reads from her 2017 werewolf novel\, ”Silver Moon”
DESCRIPTION:What: Catherine Lundoff reads from her 2017 werewolf novel\, ”Silver Moon”\nWhen: 7-8 p.m. Wed. Dec. 13\nWhere: Quatrefoil library\, 1220 E. Lake St.\, Mpls.\nTickets: Free \n\nCatherine Lundoff\, the award-winning author of four short story collections and one novel\, edited a collection of lesbian ghost stories. A recent release by Lundoff is her story collection\, “Out of This World: Queer Speculative Fiction.” \nLundoff\, who appeared at Quatrefoil’s “Women Who Write” event in March\, is back to read from her recent novel\, “Silver Moon” (Queen of Swords Press\, 2017). \nBecca Thornton\, divorced\, middle-aged and trying to embrace a quiet life\, discovers that there are still plenty of surprises to be had when her menopause kicks in with bonus lycanthropy. And she’s not the only one. The seemingly peaceful and dull town of Wolf’s Point has its own all-female werewolf pack\, and Becca has just become its newest member. But it’s not all protecting Wolf’s Point\, midnight meetings at the Women’s Club and monthly runs through the woods. There are werewolf hunters in town and now they’ve got Becca and the Wolf’s Point Pack in their sights. \nAs if that weren’t enough\, Becca’s cute lesbian werewolf neighbor\, Erin\, is starting to haunt her dreams as well as her doorstep. What’s a newbie werewolf to do\, between the hot flashes and the unexpected physical transformations? Can Becca overcome her fears and help the werewolves defeat their greatest enemy? \nLundoff lives in Minneapolis with her wife and two cats. She is an award-winning writer and editor whose stories and articles have appeared or are forthcoming in numerous books\, anthologies and periodicals. She is also the publisher at Queen of Swords Press\, a new genre-fiction publisher of tales from out of this world (www.queenofswordspress.com). www.catherinelundoff.net Twitter: @clundoff \nQuatrefoil is an all-volunteer\, member-supported LGBTQ lending library and resource center that just celebrated its 30th year in the Twin Cities. https://www.qlibrary.org/ and follow us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/QuatrefoilLibrary/

SUMMARY:Mark Abramson reads from his new memoir ‘Minnesota Boy’
DESCRIPTION:What: Writer Mark Abramson reads from ”Minnesota Boy\,” his new memoir of growing up and coming out in Minnesota \n\n\nWhere: Quatrefoil Library\, 1220 E. Lake St.\, Mpls. \nTickets: Free \n \nA farm boy from northern Minnesota finds his way to “the cities” when he arrives at the University of Minnesota in 1970. Things change fast. \n \nIn his new memoir\, Mark Abramson writes about touring Europe at 18 as a sax-playing member of an all-American big band. \n \nThe five years that follow find him studying music at the U\, trying marijuana\, joining protests against the Vietnam war and coming out as a gay man. It’s a long trip from smalltown pinochle games\, Lawrence Welk on TV and hail-damaged soybean fields to hippie communes\, symphony concerts at Northrop Auditorium and dancing at the old Sutton’s bar in downtown Minneapolis. But Abramson knits it together in his warm\, honest and straightforward prose. \n \nThreaded throughout the book are Abramson’s regular visits and phone chats with his aging mother\, Beulah. \n \nAbramson\, who moved to San Francisco in the mid-1970s\, has published a mystery series called “Beach Reading\,” a later-in-life memoir in two parts and several nonfiction books. Come hear him read from and talk about his just-published\, Minnesota-specific book. \n \nQuatrefoil is a LGBTQ lending library in its 31st year\, and is entirely run by volunteers and supported by its members.

SUMMARY:AIDS Quilt Creator and Activist Cleve Jones at the Quatrefoil Nov.
DESCRIPTION:“Some people witness history; others actually make it happen. Cleve Jones\, by planting himself boldly in the eye of the storm\, has succeeded brilliantly at doing both.” \nThat’s how Armistead Maupin characterized the veteran activist when Jones’ book “When We Rise” came out in 2016. \nAt a free event Nov. 2 (7 p.m.) at Quatrefoil Library in Minneapolis\, Jones will talk about his life in the movement\, the history of the AIDS quilt\, gay rights then and now\, generational divides among LGBTQ people\, the advent of gay marriage\, lessons learned\, advice for today’s young activists\, his current involvement with the labor movement\, and much more. \nJones’ account of his years of political activism in San Francisco and the nation was dramatized in 2017 in a prime time ABC miniseries starring Guy Pearce and Mary Louise Parker. \nJones moved to San Francisco as a young man in the 1970s. He met and was mentored by pioneering gay rights leader Harvey Milk. Jones co-founded the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and\, in 1987\, conceived the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt\, which grew to include 85\,000 fabric panels dedicated to Americans who died from AIDS. The quilt toured the country\, including to the Metrodome in Minneapolis and a giant 1996 display on the Mall in Washington\, D.C.\, that was visited by tens of thousands\, including then President Bill Clinton. \nThis event is hosted by Quatrefoil\, an all-volunteer LGBTQ lending library that is also a center for book clubs\, readings\, panel discussions\, drop-in groups and book launches. Located on E. Lake Street in Minneapolis\, the library is open seven days a week. Seating is first-come\, first-served\, so plan to arrive early to ensure a seat. \n  \nLinks for more information:\nCleve Jones website\nHachette books
